While bark mulch gives a fine finished look to any landscape or flowerbed that is far from its only use. Finely shredded mulch forms a barrier of sorts on top of the soil, suppressing weeds and retaining precious moisture in the soil. And who wouldn’t like to weed or water less? Like the forest floor, this mulch will eventually break down and provide added nutrients to the soil. And let’s not forget winter protection. A good 2-3” layer of mulch protects tender roots near the soil surface, and helps against wild fluctuations in temperature. Our mulch is pure bark, without large pieces of wood, which breaks down slowly, stealing precious nitrogen from your plants. WE DO NOT SELL DYED MULCH.
We sell two types of mulch in bulk, either for pick up or delivery.
Spruce/Fir mulch, warm brown
Natural Hemlock mulch, naturally reddish
Vermont Mulch is available in 2 cu. ft. bags.
Moo Doo Compost, Moo Dirt Topsoil and Moo Grow Potting Soil are available in 1 cu. ft. bags
How much do you need? For new plantings, we recommend a good 3” layer. This will compress to about 2” after a couple of months. 1 yard of mulch will spread over 100 square feet 3” deep. Compost It’s rich black color and slightly moist consistency is perfect for adding to our Champlain Valley clay or glacial Bristol and Lincoln sandy soils. Compost loosens dense clumps of soil, holds moisture, and provides and holds nutrients. We offer local Vermont Natural Ag Compost. *** We are currently sold out of Vermont Natural Ag Compost & temporarily offering All Natural Leaf Compost from AgResource (Massachusetts). ***
Topsoil We mix and screen rich native topsoil, silt, and sand on site. Weed free and easy to work, this is what we use while landscaping. One yard of topsoil will go about 80 sq. ft. 3” deep, due to compaction. Make it easy on yourself, assume 100 sq ft like mulch, and then multiply by .8.
Garden Soil The perfect blend for filling a raised bed. The right ratio of topsoil, compost, peat moss, and sand for veggies and flowers! Driveway stone is also available, call for more information
